ARAGLEN GAA NEWSLETTER 19/1/17   21/01/2017

Gym training on Fri. evening

Our playing panel for 2017 will have their first gym session of the year on this Friday night at 7.30pm. A good crowd is expected and hopefully the boys will get off on the right foot and press on from there. Our gym is of the temporary variety, however, it’s perfectly adequate and some new equipment has been purchased. The club is grateful to the carnival committee for allowing us the use of their premises. Credit is also due to Tom Browne, Shay Russell and Frank Finn for the work they put in preparing the gym. Thomas Kennally Jr. (Dooner) has also been busy contacting players and generally rallying the troops.

Membership being collected on Friday night

The days of letting membership ‘drift’ are thankfully behind us. In fairness to the players, they paid up very promptly last year and this made life easier for everyone. Our adult player membership rate (€30) is not excessive and has remained unchanged for the last 10 years.

First NCB meeting deferred

Times, dates and venues continually change on the GAA front and the scheduled first North Cork Board meeting of the year now takes place in Mallow on this evening (Thursday 19th January) at 8.30pm.

Lotto jackpot on the rise

Our club lotto jackpot is on the rise again and currently stands at €2,700. Due to bad weather and some other factors last Thursday night’s takings were back a bit, however, the plan is to make up for this and press on in the weeks ahead. Last week’s numbers were: 03, 05, 27 & 32 – there was no winner. The lucky dips went to: €50 – Sinead Barrett, c.o. Carmel’s Hair Salon, Fermoy; €50 – Brian Quirke, c.o. Garrett Quirke, Ballyheapy; €25 – Mary O’Brien, Araglin and €25 – Alice O’Brien, Ballard, Araglin. Lotto lines are available from Emmet’s, Christy’s, Fitzgerald Hurley’s, Tony Dalton’s shop (Kilworth), The Village Inn (Kilworth) and O’Sullivan’s Centra (Kilworth).

Successful church gate collection

The club held a church gate collection in Araglin last Saturday and Sunday – the amount raised was €420, again, a sincere word of thanks to all those who contributed.

League winners’ draw

For the second year in a row, we are one of the 6 successful clubs taking part in the Cavanagh’s of Fermoy league winners’ draw. Those purchasing a ticket (€20) are in with a chance of winning some great prizes, which include, two cars and 28 cash prizes of €250.

Carnival AGM on Friday 27th January

Readers should note that the AGM of Araglin carnival takes place on Friday 27th January in the hall at 8.30pm – everyone welcome.

Bingo on Friday night

Bingo players are expected to be out in strength on Friday night next (20th January) for the second session of 2017. Bingo in Araglin has really made a name for itself with people travelling long distances to take part.
